When we get back to the living room, Willa’s there too. I haven’t seen her since the wedding. She’s cuddled up next to Kristie, so they must still be doing the on-again, off-again thing. Good for them. I’m all about taking happiness where you can get it these days.

“Congrats, Stud Muffin. I heard you knocked up your girlfriend,” Willa says with a smile from the couch.

“Thanks, Willa. This is Avery,” I introduce holding Avery against my side.

“Good to meet you. Serious question, Avery. How do you deal with him? He’s loud, obnoxious, swears like a fucking sailor. I don’t know how the rest of these bitches dealt with him for twenty-six years,” Willa asks.

Avery stares at Willa, probably wondering if she’s being serious, joking, or is just plain weird. I try hard to hold in my smile. Willa’s a lot like Kris and me, so I’m used to it. She’s joking. People fucking love me.

“Uh, well… I don’t know. He’s all those things, I guess, but he’s also really sweet. He doesn’t lie, he’s thoughtful. He’s straightforward, but not in an asshole kind of way. He’s man enough to admit when he’s wrong and I just kinda fell in love with him unexpectantly when I didn’t think I would even want to give my heart to another person to potentially crush. I trust him to be kind to it,” Avery answers honestly.

I don’t try to hide my smile anymore as I gaze down at her. How is she so fucking perfect for me? Exactly what I want and need when I didn’t even know what I was looking for. Everyone stares at her. I don’t think they were expecting such a genuine answer. Though we love each other, we tend towards jokes.

“Oh my God! That’s so adorable. I’m so happy he found you,” Brooke practically screeches into the silence.

Evan’s smiling as he pulls her into his lap, nuzzling her neck. Sweets sits there, alone, in between the couples. I know she wants to meet someone worthwhile. Someone kind like her but also a little spontaneous so he can get her out of her comfort zone every once in a while but also respects her boundaries. I don’t know when or how she’ll meet that person, but I know he’s out there somewhere. If I can find my perfect match on a blind date I didn’t even want to go on, Allie can find someone too.

“So shots?” Kristie asks.

“No!” Brooke yells.

“Fine. You guys are turning into old farts now that you’re married and having babies,” Kristie pouts.

“Speaking of which, I think we’re going to head to bed. It’s been a long day,” I say, glancing down at Avery.

Her eyelids look heavy and I know how tired she gets these days. She’s sick in the morning or the middle of the night sometimes. She doesn’t sleep as well as she did before we found out. I don’t know if it’s because of the advancing pregnancy or because she worries now that we know.
